Charity Ball for the elderly – 11/2019

I recently graduated from the East Stroudsburg University with a Master of Science degree in Sport Management.

I am full of energy and high on life!

My name is Heather Phillips, I am Heather to some family members, and affectionately called HP by most people including my friends, colleagues, and some family members.

I am from Jamaica, to be specific, Red Hills, St Andrew.  I am a simple Scorpio woman that loves to laugh, I love to share my zodiac sign because it is always so interesting to see or hear people’s reaction as it relates to the characteristics of this zodiac sign. I have a thing for people, yes, I love people. I love my family, I love the elderly, children, and of course, I love my crazy friends who think I’m too passionate at times, because of my displeasure towards injustice.

I developed a passion for music through my father, I like a good script (movie) and of course, my undying love and passion for sports would be among the top nominees for best passion.

My passion for music…

I listen to most if not all genres of music from time to time. I am from the country of Reggae and dancehall, so naturally, the riddim (rhythm) is in my blood…yep…yep!! One of my favourite non-Jamaican artistes is the 8 times Grammy winner Anita Baker. Why? I discovered her after she released her second album ‘Rapture’ in 1986, as a teen when I was discovering myself and life, so to-date she remains number 1.

My passion for sports…

I have a crazy obsessive passion for sports, and of course, track and field is the front runner. I did mention that I’m from Jamaica, right! Yes, I am from the home country of some of track and field world-beaters like Veronica Campbell-Brown ‘VCB’, Usain ‘Lightning’ Bolt, Merlene Ottey, Asafa Powell, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce ‘Pocket/Mommy Rocket’ and many, many others! My interest in sports started with track and field in the 80s as a little girl hearing the name Merlene Ottey-Paige running for my country in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, that landed her a bronze medal in the 100m behind America’s Evelyn Ashford who won in a record time of 10.97.

Merlene’s name stapled track and field in my permanent memory, I would never miss another track and field championship after that, and of course, I started learning about sports by listening to commentators, reading articles, and attending events.
